Managing Environment Variables and Hard Drives using Moesion

Moesion is a platform that allows you to manage your IT and Cloud services from your smartphone or tablet. Moesion enables native management of your entire Windows infrastructure and even Windows Azure. Among the capabilities of the product are the ability to manage windows related artifacts like event viewer, manage SQL server, SharePoint, BizTalk server and much much more.

Side note, Moesion works great with 3G connections; Wi-Fi is not a must.

This post will focus on environment variables and hard drives.

A list of the environment variables and hard drives capabilities includes (keep in mind, all of this from your mobile phone or tablet):

  • View all local environment variables
  • Vies all local hard drives.
  • View detailed information regarding the health of the hard drives.

Let’s look at some screen-shots:

When you touch the disk icon on the home page, you will see the screen blow listing the local hard drives on the server and their sizes:

Touching any of the disks in the list will bring up additional details about the hard drive:

Notice the status of this disk being OK. This is very helpful information when troubleshooting issues with the server.

The environment variables page lists all the local system variables like “APPDATA”, “TMP” folders and many more (notice the search box that allows you to jump directly to a specific variable):

The list includes the infamous “Path” variable that is known to be the root cause of many issues with applications suddenly stopping to work.

The information in the screens above will be extremely valuable when we need to troubleshoot issues on a server. Although the information is a read only, we can use it to eliminate potential issues and thus, figuring out faster what is actually wrong with the server.

Remember, all this using your smartphone or tablet.
